The Place

Argentina is the fifth largest wine producing country in the world.
In the "New World", this is second only to the U.S. Nevertheless, it remains a wine region basically unknown to most, and up until just recently, practically all of its wines were consumed internally.

The Mendoza area is historically the area responsible for the finest wines produced in Argentina.
Within Mendoza one finds specific terroirs particularly suited for the Malbec varietal, specifically, the area of Lujan de Cuyo and the Valle di Uco.

The city of Mendoza is at the foothills of the Andes, a short distance from the Aconcagua, its highest peak, which stands at over 22,000 ft. The area's population is 1,5 million, 700,000 of which in Mendoza's urban area. The region has a desert or semi-desert climate; its soils are alluvial. The Natives cultivated it, channeling the water from the Mendoza and Tunuyan rivers.

In time, the European colonizers developed imposing systems of water distribution that today make it one of the principal areas in Latin American for the cultivation not only of vines, but of fruits and vegetables in general.

This semi-desert climate has the characteristic of large temperature differentials - a very hot daytime and very cool nights - and with the abundant presence of water extracted from artesian wells makes the area particularly suited for the cultivation of high quality grapes.
